Constructed of rugged .50-mm, polyester-backed PVC (polyvinyl chloride) fabric, the Carhartt Surrey Coat stands up to driving rains and strong winds. Waterproof and wind resistant, it’s built Carhartt tough; the seams are electronically welded and the major seams are also sewn for extra strength. For added protection, the coat’s engineered with a double-front storm placket with inside and outside protective flaps, and neoprene inner-sleeve cuffs with adjustable hook-and-loop closures. The left-chest pocket and two lower-front pockets also protect items from wetness; all feature hook-and-loop closures. When weather threatens, pull up the snap on/off detachable hood. Elbows are also reinforced for strength. *.50-mm, polyester-backed PVC *Waterproof and wind resistant *Double-front storm placket

its still to soon to really give a more extended and accurate review to this rain coat, so far i had to go to the process of returning my first order due to the lack of possibility to try it before buying it, although the customer service was great and the honored the return policy and the even where nice to send a label to returning for free shipping (which is the kind where you talk to a real person, not a computer voice and it was a very nice person on the other side of the line this time)and credited back the other purchase and send right away the new order with the different sizing, i had tried already the bibs and the coat, they feel good they don't breath because that is the way its with this material and that normal, but they do what they are intended to do, keep me dry while working, now its a question of durability, so lets see. thanks Carhartt and shipping people for doing your job,

Best rain gear I've ever owned. I used mine when I was a field rep with a water treatment company. It was somewhat stiff due to the thickness of the material, but that's also what made it great for industrial settings. It was almost indestructible! Other, cheaper rain gear I had purchased over the years would never hold up. This rain gear worked for me for several years until changing careers.

My first two Surrey rain coats were great. Someone at work decided to walk off with my last good one last winter. The replacement I purchased gave me a wet back and wet arms in a moderate rain the first time I wore it. Returned it to store I purchased it from, who replaced it, the second coat leaked too, not quite as bad. Sent the second defective coat back to Carhartt, who took about two months to send a coat that retails $ 20 less. I own parkas, coats, vests, bibs, pants, shirts, hats, socks etc. from Carhartt and have never had such a bad experience.

Bought this for its waterproof rating and it felt like a heavy duty coat for rainwear. After a 1/2 hour I was soaked from the rain everywhere. Avoid this if you want a waterproof jacket. Not what I expected from CARHARTT.

I am a grower in the greenhouse/nursery industry. I bought this jacket for working in the rain. The jacket is stated to be water proof however after working in the rain for just 10mins my back started to feel wet. The whole back part of the jacket and hood were wet. How is it considered waterproof when water soaks through. I've always bought carhartt work clothes because of the quality however this jacket is making me consider purchasing a different brand

About a month and a half after buying this jacket, the left arm seam and the elbow seams have started to come apart. And I haven't worn the coat everyday.

got this coat as a gift and was pleasantly surprised by the way it shielded me from the cold wind while working fourty feet up in the air in an aerial lift.then the rain came and I started get wet down my back.not sure where it was leaking from but ended up getting wet arms too. seems that the inside may be attracting moisture that forms from somewhere. good button down good size good strength not happy with moisture inside my rain coat

Once I had to go out in a hurricane downpour with this coat and the matching bibs to get something for someone and even though it was raining heavily this coat and matching bibs kept me dry so if I have to go outside during a heavy downpour again I will be prepared. I also like the 3 pockets on it and the way you can layer with it for cold weather use. It is a little heavy but that is no problem for me. The only downside I have to say about it is that since it is PVC and doesn't have vent holes it makes me sweat when worn for extended periods of time but I just open the front to keep cool. I would recommend this coat and matching bibs to anyone who needs to spend long hours in the rain. Also I have to say this would be extremely hard to rip or destroy.
